Laborer (Former Employee) says

"Boring job, slow paced, poor management. Worked over 60 hours that I never ended up getting paid for. On call for the majority of my time with the company, got calls an hour before they needed me saying to come in. Too short notice."

Driver (Current Employee) says

"No benefits no vac no holiday pay no set schedule no set hours lack of communication owners are fair housing include to an existent steady work equipment is descent"

apprentice hairdresser. (Former Employee) says

"I started work at 08.45. My first task would be to set up salon ready for clients, get day sheets and record cards out after checking diary. I would greet clients, offer refreshments and shampoo their hair. Throughout the day I would keep salon clean and tidy, answering the telephone, making appointments and handling cash payments. While there I learnt how to deal with customers, telephone skills, book-keeping and hairdressing skills. Cons: Long hours"

Former Employee - Account Manager says

"I worked at JoVE full-time for more than 3 years Cons: A lot of the negative reviews are on here for a reason. Everyone is expendable and at the whim of the CEO. The more layers of insulation between you and him, the better. In March the company laid off something like 1/3 of the employees completely out of the blue. They claimed it was due to “financial duress” but since then they had their best year of sales ever. Also since then almost every position that was laid off has been India. So clearly they just took the opportunity to cut people and save themselves some money. The people laid off included some of the top performers, so no matter who you are, the company has no loyalty to you. In the last few years there are more people who left the company (not laid off) solely because they didn’t want to deal with the CEO anymore. The office culture has improved in recent years. It’s not an aggressive, shark tank sales floor anymore, but you are expected to hit your numbers above all else. And you’re reminded. For most people this means cold calling and outreach. It’s a simple formula (the more you call/email = the better you do) but it’s not for everyone. If you’re looking at working for JoVE, know what you’re getting into. There are some great people who will be great mentors, and it really is an awesome product, but the company is not your friend and you need to keep both eyes open."
